Fakultativwagen #1

Back in the 1880 German Länderbahnen asked for a certain type of railcar that could be used in freight, postal and passenger traffic. Those multi-purpose or optional cars were called Fakultativwagen (not only a strange term to the British tongue). During the timeframe from 1890 to 1920 Fakultativwagen were the back bone in branch line and rural traffic.
In passenger service those cars were mixed up with standard passenger coaches. In its freight role, they served as baggage vans, transported boxed goods and postal cargo. Because of its multipurpose factor those Fakultativwagen were also of great interest for military use. Saxon rail administration kept all Fakultativwagen (around 250 railcars) as planning reserve for military operations.
During the last years Fakultativwagen thrilled me. I researched much, - build and re-build several Fakultativwagen. Most of the results were seen on epoche1.de. Within the next days I will post some of this material here.
